About Uckfield

First noted in the late thirteenth centry, the town of Uckfield developed as a rest-point on journeys between Canterbury, Chicester and Lewes. Centered around the River Uck crossing, the town spread outwards forming the High Street and New Town areas present today.

Today, the town is served by the A22 between East Grinstead and Eastbourne and the A26 between Tunbridge Wells and Lewes. It is also connected to the capital by the Southern railway service to London Bridge station.

Due to its proximity to the river and floodplain, the town is susceptible to severe flooding, the most significant recent event being in the year 2000.

The town benefits from an independent cinema, The Picture House, a local community radio station, Uckfield FM, several nature reserves and a variety of sports and leisure facilities.
